Chiropractic, Health and Wellbeing

I am a Chiropractor in Portobello, Dublin 8

I use gentle chiropractic techniques to trigger the body’s natural ability to heal and flourish. I care deeply about all my patients’ well-being and it is my aim to help you improve your health.

I have a special expertise in chiropractic care during and after pregnancy, pediatric chiropractic (for babies and children), and Network Spinal Technique.

I graduated in 2014 from the Franco European Institute of Chiropractic (IFEC) in Toulouse, France. Being half French and half Scottish, I decided, after graduating, to explore my mother’s home country and moved to Edinburgh, Scotland. I thoroughly enjoyed my four years in Scotland where I worked in a very busy family oriented chiropractic clinic. In 2018, I moved to lovely Dublin.

I have a special interest for chiropractic during pregnancy, helping pregnant mums have the best possible pregnancy, labour and delivery, and for pediatric chiropractic (for babies and children).

I am constantly improving my knowledge by attending chiropractic seminars: chiropractic adjustment of children, Network Spinal technique…

I am a member of the Chiropractic Association of Ireland (CAI) and of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA).

I am passionate about Network Spinal chiropractic technique and improving my patients wellbeing. I discovered chiropractic at the age of 16, through Network Spinal care and I knew at once I had found my path. My whole family started attending chiropractic care regularly at that time and I immediately saw huge benefits.’

About Chiropractic

What is Chiropractic care?

The WHO defines chiropractic as “A health care profession concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disorders of the neuromusculoskeletal system and the effects of these disorders on general health. There is an emphasis on manual techniques, including joint adjustment and/or manipulation with a particular focus on subluxations.”

Chiropractic care is aimed at the detection, assessment, and treatment of abnormal joint movement in the spine and extremities (arms and legs), and the impact of this dysfunction on the nervous system and on general health.

By correcting these dysfunctions, Chiropractors help improve the nervous system’s ability to adapt to stress.

Chiropractic does not rely on drugs or surgery. Instead, chiropractors use spinal adjustment and soft tissues techniques to increase the health of the whole body.

You do not need a medical referral before seeing a chiropractor.

It is a growing trend! More patients than ever are seeking chiropractors for their healthcare needs!

When is chiropractic care helpful for me?

You would like to improve your health and function, your sens of wellbeing, improve your sports performance, have a better sens of self. In so many words, improve your overall quality of life.

You are struggling with pain, have a specific neuromuskuloskeletal condition, or undifined health problems. You might feel out of alignment, or twisted or even one leg feels shorter than the other.

All of the above are great reasons to get your spine checked.

Here are examples of conditions some of my patients initially came with:

  • Neck Pain
  • Back Pain (Upper, Mid, or Low)
  • Arthritis & Joint Pain
  • Frozen Shoulder
  • General aches and pains from joints, muscle spasms and cramp
  • Disc Herniations/Bulges
  • Headaches (Tension & Migraines)
  • TMJ Dysfunction
  • Sciatica
  • Radiating Nerve Pain
  • Muscle Weakness
  • Poor Posture
  • Car Accident Injuries
  • Numbness/Tingling
  • Sports injury
  • etc…
Chiropractic comes from the Greek kheír

(‘hand’) + Greek praktikos (‘practical’, from prattein ‘do’) means ‘done by hand’.

Chiropractic: some historical facts

Chiropractic started in the USA in 1895 when Daniel David Palmer, the founder of Chiropractic, performed the first adjustment, on his janitor, Mr. Harvey Lillard, and restored the man’s hearing.

Chiropractic was later developed by DD Palmer’s son, Bartlett Joshua Palmer and his wife Mabel Heath Palmer.

Chiropractic and Pregnancy

Chiropractic care during pregnancy and after

Chiropractic care in pregnancy is vital to the normal physiological function of both the mother and baby throughout pregnancy and birth. I use the Webster-Technique and am Webster-certified.

The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic sacral analysis and adjustment. The goal of the adjustment is to reduce the effects of sacral subluxation/Sacro-Iliac joint dysfunction. In doing so, neuro-biomechanical function in the pelvis is facilitated. This adjustment involves no external forces on the baby directly, and it is very comfortable and extremely safe.

Sacral subluxation may contribute to difficult labor for the mother (i.e., dystocia), caused by inadequate uterine function, pelvic contraction, and baby mal-presentation. Correction of sacral subluxation may have a positive effect on all of these causes of dystocia.

You can read more about the Webster Technique and its benefit in this article from Pathways to family wellness.

See below why I think it is a great idea for expecting mothers to see a chiropractor.

During pregnancy:

  • Reduces back, neck, and joint pain of the expecting mother
  • Reduces pelvic girdle pain (SPD)
  • Improves comfort as the body changes (centre of gravity shifting forward, increase lower-back curvature, increasing upper-back (thoracic spine) curvature which will lead to extra stress on the neck and shoulders)
  • Improves sleep
  • Restores pelvic imbalance
  • Improves posture
  • Shorter labour and safer birth
  • Improves ability to exercise

After birth:

  • Chiropractic care can help overcome nursing challenges
  • It helps overcome pelvic dysfunction
  • It can reduce sciatic pain and rib pain
